Car wrap maintenance guide
Proper care will maximize the appearance and lifespan of your vinyl graphics or vehicle wrap. Here's how I recommend caring for wraps installed by Vinylize Wraps in Chilliwack and across the Fraser Valley.
Washing
Recommended
- • Hand wash using automotive soap and water.
- • Use a soft microfiber wash mitt.
- • Rinse thoroughly.
Avoid
- • Automatic car washes with brushes.
- • Abrasive cleaning products.
- • Polishing compounds on vinyl surfaces.
- • Harsh chemicals or solvents.
Pressure washing
Pressure washing should be used carefully.
- • Keep pressure below 2,000 PSI.
- • Maintain at least 12 inches distance.
- • Spray at an angle rather than directly into edges.
- • Never direct high-pressure water at seams, corners, or edges.
Stain removal
Remove contaminants as soon as possible:
- • Bird droppings
- • Tree sap
- • Fuel spills
- • Insect residue
Use mild soap and water or approved vinyl-safe cleaners.
Avoid
- • Scraping ice from wrapped surfaces
- • Fuel spills left unattended
- • Solvent-based cleaners
- • Gasoline exposure on wrap edges
- • Pressure washing directly into seams
Long-term care
Inspect your wrap periodically for:
- • Edge lifting
- • Cuts or tears
- • Impact damage
Small issues repaired early can prevent larger repairs later. Vehicles that are garage-kept or protected with a breathable vehicle cover typically hold their finish longer.
